Varsity Baseball Infield Getting $18K Upgrade

The West Morris Central Wolfpack varsity baseball team will play no matter what the situation.

But for the upcoming 2013 season, they’ll have the opportunity to break in a new turf infield thanks to the community.

The West Morris Regional School Board accepted more than $18,000 in contributions to the varsity field at its regular meeting Monday night, all of which is coming at no cost to the district.

Garden State Landscaping, in conjunction with Harrington Construction and All Wet Irrigation will be donating labor, time and material valued at $7,500. Hoffman’s Supply of Long Valley has donated $625 worth of Infield ProMix; the Wanic family of Long Valley has donated $5,000; and the West Morris Central Diamond Club is putting $5,000 of its own funds to the project.

“The Diamond Club had extra money for this,” said board member Lisa Woodring, whose son plays baseball for the school. “It’s a great improvement for the field.”

The field’s condition is currently not in the best shape, Woodring said, as the infield is constructed of hard turf.

“When the ball bounces off the infield right now, it’s like it’s bouncing off concrete,” Woodring said. “These improvements should fix that.”

The field changes are expected to be complete prior to the start of the 2013 season.
