Ciccone's 4 TDs Not Enough in Finale
West Morris Central remains top seed in upcoming playoffs.
A four touchdown performance from senior Jon Ciccone wasn't enough as the West Morris football team failed to stop unbeaten Sparta (9-0) on Friday night, falling 37-27 in the regular season finale in Sparta.
Despite the loss, West Morris (7-2) remains the top seed in the North 2, Group III tournament and is scheduled to receive a bye in the first round.
In addition to his four touchdowns, Ciccone rumbled for 112 yards on 17 carries, according to NJ.com, while West Morris quarterback John Gutowski was 9 of 17 for 118 yards, and running back Jason Mackewicz finished with 61 yards on 12 carries.

Sparta's Jake Melville turned in an eye-opening performance of his own, one that included 218 yards and two scores through the air, 80 yards on the ground, and a 47-yard touchdown reception from Ryan Hutchison. That score put Sparta up 24-14 in the third quarter.
Sparta running back Codie Aromando ran the ball 18 times for 98 yards and two touchdowns, and also caught four passes for 41 yards.
