Wolfpack Hockey Seniors Honored in Send Off

End of season banquet hands out accolades for team members.

When 70-percent of a team is short on experience but big on heart, it takes a special group of veterans to help anchor the squad.

That’s exactly what five West Morris Central Ice Hockey team members, all seniors, did for the Wolfpack this year, as they were honored for their 2012-13 efforts and overall careers at a recent banquet.

Mike Cotter, Dan DeVincentis, Zach Fischer, Zack Halko, and Chris Harquail led a 22-member team consisting of eight first-year players and seven second-year players to the semi-final round of the Halvorson Cup playoffs before losing to sister-school Mendham.

The team amassed a 9-12-2 record with a 6-6-2 standing in the Halvorsen Division. A highlight of the season was a win over Bridgewater-Raritan, the runner-up in the Public A state high school tournament.

Minding the net all season was freshman Tim Polgase, whose 85-percent save average got him a spot on the Halvorsen Division’s second team, as named by coaches.

Junior forward Ryan Muscatella was also named to second team, senior defensemen Cotter was named to the third team, junior forward Adam Richards received honorable mention, and senior defenseman Zach Fischer was the recipient of his second Harry Shatel Memorial Unsung Hero Award.

Muscatella, with 46 points, was named the team’s Most Valuable Player, and Ray Rega, junior goaltender and first year player was named the team’s most improved skater.
