Central Uses Ground Game to Get by Mendham

Game was the closest between neighborhood rivals in half a decade.

In a battle of western Morris County sister schools, ground-and-pound led the way for both teams as West Morris Central and Mendham high schools faced off Friday night.

Central, coming off a heart-breaking 3-0 loss to Morristown last week, got back to basics and beat the Minutemen 28-21 in Washington Township, according to dailyrecord.com.

The Wolfpack saw Javier Murray amass 114 yards and two scores on 14 carries, complemented by Kevin Hennelly's 72 yards on 12 carries, the report said.

Mendham's Tim Byrne accounted for all three of the Minutemen's touchdowns, the report said. The Minutemen are now 1-4 on the season.
