Washington Twp. (Morris) DPW Snow Operations

Our township has had an interesting few weeks with successive weather events (snow/ snow mixed with ice/ ice & freezing rain/ single digit temperatures). Our town DPW crews have worked 12-16 hour shifts plowing, salting, sanding and plowing roads (150 miles). Some areas had to be plowed multiple times due to blowing snow. The third storm was probably the worst as wet snow and ice slowed down the trucks. Despite all of this, emergency service stations were kept clear (Police, Fire and First Aid) so they could respond as needed and a DPW truck was designated to clear the way if there was a home emergency (fire, injury at home or on the roads, a baby deciding to be born ahead of schedule). Our town was in good shape due to the efforts of DPW Supervisor Scott Frech, and his workers. The four mechanics at the Road Garage had the equipment ready to go and made repairs quickly as the trucks were in operation 24 hours a day. Finally, Scott carefully managed our road salt and grit supplies so we had enough on hand to cover the repeated storms. (That was especially important when the State "confiscated road salt supplies" at Port Newark during Storm 3 even though we had ordered ours in advance.) To my knowledge there were no major storm related accidents on our roads. Thanks to everyone at DPW, for  a great effort to keep our roads open and safe. Thanks also to all the residents who played it safe and stayed off the roads whenever possible.
