Awards Bloom for Long Valley Garden Club, New Officers Installed

Long Valley non-profit celebrating 44th year in town.

It’s been a busy few months for the Long Valley Garden Club, who garnered a gaggle of awards from the state and installed new officers for the calendar year.

The National Garden Clubs, Inc. awarded the Garden Club of Long Valley for “A Standard Flower Show Achievement Award Staged in Public Building,” a national recognition that is a high honor for the local non-profit organization.

The Club also received the Mrs. David L. George Silver Cup for finest judged Standard Flower Show of the Year; Garden Club RFD Trophy for finest Standard Flower Show Schedule of the Year; and the Helen Hull Silver Bowl for finest horticultural division in a highly rated Standard Flower Show.

Garden Club individuals were also recognized for their work, including Terry Holman for Creativity in Flower Arranging and received the Myra Brooks Memorial Trophy. Jan Godek won the Amelia Stewart Perpetual Trophy for the winner of the Horticultural Excellence Award in the highest rated Standard Flower Show.

Youth gardener Kylie Murphy received the Dr. Bernard Pollack Trophy for highest rated blue ribbon winner in the Design Division of the Youth Section grades K-5 in the highest rated Standard Flower Show, and Mara Stahlhut, another youth gardener was awarded the Watchung Trophy to the highest rated blue ribbon winner in the Design Division of the Youth Section Grades 6-8 in the highest rated Standard Flower Show. Both girls are part of the “Sprouts” group of young horticulturists. 

New Blooms

The Garden Club also recently installed new officers to the Club, including President Jan Godek, Vice President Kathy Smith, Recording Secretary Andrea Hodgetts, Corresponding Secretary Alice Dickson, and Treasurer Gloria Dighton.

All women are Washington Township residents. The Club is celebrating its 44th year in Long Valley.
