First Green Festival Comes to Twp. Saturday

Event will exhibit methods to have more sustainable ways of living.

For the first time in Washington Township,  will host a Green Living Festival this Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., where vendors and green-minded people alike can share their ideas of sustainability with attendees.

In an effort to help attain silver certification from Sustainable Jersey, the Washington Township Green Team came up with the plan earlier this year and will see it to fruition this weekend.

The event will showcase 40 vendors exhibiting their knowledge and products during the five-hour stretch and will be a “forum for sharing information and activities about conservation,” said township employee Andrew Coppola.

Coppola, also a member of the Washington Township Green Team, will help organize the event with other members of his team in addition to members of the Mansfield Township Green Team and Califon Business Association.

Exhibits will be showcased in the Rock Spring Park pavilion, inside the , and documentaries will be shown at the , Coppola said.

Funding for the event has come through donations, Municipal Alliance Committee funds, Clean Communities funds and registration fees from the vendors, Coppola said. No grants or township money has been allocated toward the festival.

Food and live music will also be available at the event.

The Washington Township Green Team currently has the bronze certification through Sustainable Jersey, Coppola said. The all-volunteer group has also taken part in a business and produce production project and is working on promoting more biking and walking areas in town.

Love seeing communities working towards a more sustainable environment! Come check out Independent Solar's exhibit to learn more about the environmental and economic benefits of choosing solar energy for your home.
Thomas Lotito July 13, 2012 at 08:54 PM
Solar energy is a bust, "sustainability" is code for tax and limit. It's all about stopping global climate change by limiting peoples's activities and taxing high rates for electricity use in order to limit the production of green house gases. This is all code for redistribution of wealth and communism.

I need to thank Tom for letting us know that green is the new red. Please continue to share your encryption busting skills to navigate us through these troubling and confusing times. Hope there will be someone observing these commies to ensure they don't poison others with their anti-american ideas. Seriously? Communists? If that is communism, then I am not ashamed to say that I'm raising a few of my own. Paranoia will paralyze....

Waking up is hard to do....Agenda 21 is plan of the United Nations related to sustainable development. It was developed in a United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 1992. Agenda 21 is a comprehensive blueprint of action to be taken globally, nationally , and locally by organizations( Green Teams) and local governments in every area in which humans directly affect the environment. The "21" in Agenda 21 refers to 21st Century.
Fatherof2 July 14, 2012 at 02:53 PM
There is only one planet and it's just not possible for every country to be first world. You can't play the "I've got mine, don't care about you" game forever. I've read about Agenda 21. I've also read the Shock Doctrine and found it more interesting.
Thomas Lotito July 14, 2012 at 02:56 PM
The core of Agenda 21 includes changing consumption patterns of Americans, combating poverty by redistributing wealth, promoting health, achieving a more sustainable population by reducing their carbon footprint. On the agenda today at the Green Festival will be how to reduce your consumption of electricity by implementing RGGI regional green house gas initiative, which is cap and trade or tax and limit the consumer.

Worldwide resources are finite. Finding alternatives is just another "debt" we'll leave for our future generations to worry about while we spend the rest of our lives debating the cost and who should pay for it.
Thomas Lotito July 14, 2012 at 03:48 PM
So, because the world has a limited number of finite resources we should all turn to the United Nations and let third world corrupt, despots dictate America's consumption of goods and energy? No, the answer lies in American innovation, nuclear, thorium, hydrogen are unlimited energy sources. There are plenty of alternatives to solve this problem with out resorting to limiting, taxing and redistributing America's wealth, which is socialism and communism.
Fatherof2 July 14, 2012 at 03:54 PM
When these 3rd world countries want to develop and modernize, they will exploit and ruin their natural resources such as the rain forests. I personally believe it will lead to environmental changes. We cannot with good conscience allow them to develop, but have to understand they are indeed entitled to want the goodies that we have in developed countries. I believe we should subsidize to prevent their development for the betterment and sustainability of mankind. Just because I got mine, doesn't deny someone else the opportunity to get theirs. Sooner or later it has to be a collaborative effort. On this I am sure we disagree. As Americans, we were comparatively born with a silver spoon in our mouths, no matter our personal financial circumstances. It could always be worse. They are no less human than we are. As people are fond of saying....there but for the grace of God.
Thomas Lotito July 14, 2012 at 05:35 PM
So you're admitting a form of communism is needed to fulfill your green scheme dreams, which are then imposed on the rest of society in order to satisfy your vision of the future? You know that makes you a Bolshvek? Also, your statement" As Americans we were comparatively born with a silver spoons in our mouths" is not true. America is the land of opportunity. Many Americans were born in poverty. They lifted themselves out of poverty by education and working hard.Opportunities in America are so abundant that people come from all over the world to participate in American liberty and prosperity to make a better life for their families. What you're really saying is; you want to stop migration to our shores by paying off 3rd world dictators with the wealth of American citizens in order to reduce America's carbon footprint and save your vision of the world...

Label people if you must and the most incendiary names possible please. I'd still rather live in my world than yours.
GiGi Richards July 14, 2012 at 10:29 PM
The Green Festival was so enjoyable. My family and I attended and met many nice people. There was a great variety of vendors who were really interesting to speak with. I look forward to this event getting bigger and better every year.
Thomas Lotito July 14, 2012 at 10:37 PM
What, you can't face the truth about how you have given up basic American values of liberty and prosperity? What should I call you? A Greenie? Every time you buy gasoline, or cook or heat your house or use a computer or cellphone and consume energy you are living in my world.
Sam Slobo July 14, 2012 at 11:21 PM
I'm new to the patch, and Lotito sounds like a lunatic. A guy who clearly has NO life. A guy who CLEARLY dislikes himself - get a life sir. You sound like a LOON !!! If you have a family, maybe your time would be better served spending it with them. Your opinions are silly & paranoid. It's a one lap race tough guy - try to live an ounce of it.
cv July 14, 2012 at 11:28 PM
Why in the hell do the posters on the patch turn every subject into a hatefest?
Thomas Lotito July 15, 2012 at 12:18 AM
Hi Sam, Did I ruin your green dream? Good. I notice you have quite a bravado for a coward that is afraid to use his own name. If i were you i would think again because it's time to wake up to the truth...BTW take your own advice and I hope you get well!
Thomas Lotito July 15, 2012 at 12:30 AM
cv, informing people to the truth is not hate. I can't wait to read your reaction is when your electric rates "necessarily" skyrocket to pay for carbon credits in order to stop you from using electricity to stop man made global climate change...Google RGGI and Agenda 21 and tell me if you agree with their agenda. Most people have no idea what's coming in the way of an economic downturn related to energy in NJ if Obama is reelected because we burn coal to generate electricity....
cv July 15, 2012 at 01:01 AM
@Tom it wasnt necessarily you I was talking about
Thomas Lotito July 15, 2012 at 01:15 AM
Thank you cv, I appreciate it.
Sam Slobo July 15, 2012 at 01:28 AM
That is my real name JO. I spent my sunny Saturday poolside with my children - enjoying the wonderful weather and a fertile BBQ. You spent your day camped in front of a monitor in what I imagine to be a DINGY environment. Inside of a dark room. Good for you - it must be difficult being so cerebral.
Thomas Lotito July 15, 2012 at 01:44 AM
Hey Sam, you're a troll, stop stalking me, it's getting creepy. I couldn't care less what you did today.
Sam Slobo July 15, 2012 at 01:53 AM
That is my real name JO. I spent the day with my children in the sun, on the deck & swimming in the pool. Enjoying my family & LIFE. You spent your day in front of a computer dishing out BS on the patch. You must feel complete at the end of each day.
Sam Slobo July 15, 2012 at 01:58 AM
Trying to hit all the " buzzwords " ? " Stalking " - " Creepy " . Your a guy who is real tough with a keyboard. Real smart with a keyboard. We both know the truth.
Llama Tostito July 15, 2012 at 02:46 AM
I love green energy. I think we should have windmills everywhere, that way we wll have sustainable energy whenever the wind blows. I love all things green, frogs, lizards, money, people that are green with envy. Green, green, green.
Llama Tostito July 15, 2012 at 02:49 AM
Hey Sam, Tom Lotito wrote this about you, "Hey Sam, you're a troll." According to Tom, this constitutes harassment, now he doesn't like when people do it to him, however, he see sno problem in doing it to them... what's that word, oh yes, hypocrite.
