Historical Society Honors Lifetime Resident

John Hemmings was a former president of the Society.

The bestowed an honorary membership to John Hemmings at its Feb. 21 general meeting.

Mr. Hemmings is a lifetime resident of Long Valley and ran Mayflower Moving from the 1970’s until his retirement in 2003. He has been a member of the WTHS for more than twenty years, serving in many capacities including president. 

He narrated the DVD “Historic Railroads in Washington Township” which won second prize in the Kevin Hale Publications Awards. He has also added many priceless items to the Society’s collections.

Mr. Hemmings was also a Charter President of the Long Valley Jaycees as well as a past president of the Chester-Long Valley Rotary and was twice named a Paul Harris Fellow in that organization.

The Society is grateful to Mr. Hemmings for his many years of hard work and dedication to the mission of the Washington Township Historical Society.
