Junior Women's Club Awarded for Kids 'CARE'

Enrichment program serves more than 600 local students.

The Long Valley Junior Women’s Club was recently awarded the New Jersey Greater Federation of Women’s Clubs (NJGFWC) State Community Improvement Award for their Children’s Arts and Recreational Enrichment program, also known as C.A.R.E., according to a press release from the organization.

On May 19, at the annual NJGFWC convention held in Long Branch, the local club was honored for C.A.R.E., a program that provides educational and recreational activities for children and to support the needs of the growing community through charitable donations.

The club created C.A.R.E. 40 years ago as a small project whose goal was to fill a void in the then rural community, by providing after school enrichment activities for children, the press release said.

The first year’s enrollment was 30 students, the release said. Today, arts and enrichment classes are provided to more than 600 students. Classes include dance, sports skills, piano, gymnastics, ceramics, drawing, science, language, theater, and tutoring.

The following information was provided by the Long Valley Junior Women’s Club:

With continued growth over the years, this program has become our largest annual fundraiser for the Long Valley Junior Women’s Club.  For each of the past three years, the C.A.R.E. Program has helped us raise from $20,000 to over $40,000 annually, even in these hard economic times.  Funds from this program are then allocated to the local schools and various organizations or families in need within and surrounding our community.

The C.A.R.E. Program works directly with the Washington Township Board of Education to make this program the success that it is today.  The C.A.R.E. Program offers after school classes to preschool and school age children in our area. The C.A.R.E. Program is known in our town as “The Best Deal in Town”.
