5 Things to Do in the Region

Discover jazz in Hackettstown, Adventures in Digital Photography in Florham Park and a roadmap toward a new you in Morristown this weekend.

There is lots to do, see and enjoy this weekend. Check out this sampling of events from around the region.

  1. Work toward becoming your best self in 2014 at New Year, New You. The On the Pulse Productions lifestyle expo takes place Saturday from 10:30 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Morristown Armory at 430 Western Ave. in Morristown. More than 100 vendors will be on-site to help you get on track in the areas of physical, mental and financial health, relationships, career and spirituality. There will also be light food available, and entertainment and lectures designed to help you find ways to look, feel and live better. For more info, contact onthepulseproductions@gmail.com. Admission for the expo is $5 for adults.
  2. Be a hero and give a pet a forever family at the Terry's Pet Depot Puppy Adoption Event. On Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. at 1711 Route 10 in Morris Plains, Canine Crusaders will be on hand with dogs available for adoption. Come out and see the adorable puppies who will melt your heart. For information, contact Terry's at 973-538-7387.
  3. The Tizer Jazz Quartet brings its multi-faceted world fusion sounds to Hackettstown's Centenary Stage Saturday night. The intense, improvisational foursome, led by violinist Karen Briggs, boasts a diverse resume that includes performance slots alongside musicians like Jethro Tull, Isaac Hayes, Al Jarreau, George Benson, Babyface, Bruce Hornsby and Robin Thicke. And they're expected to put on quite a show Saturday at 8 p.m. at Centenary Stage, 715 Grand Ave., Hackettstown. Tickets are $22.50 for adults and $15 for children under 12, when purchased in advance, and $5 more at the door. For info, call the box office at 908-979-0900.
  4. The weekend is a great time to try a new hobby. If you have an interest in taking photographs, your opportunity comes Sunday. Adventures in Digital Photography is a lecture featuring Florham Park's own Bob Young. After his lively and informative presentation, he will take part in a question and answer session. The photo event takes place Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Florham Park Library, 107 Ridgedale Ave. in Florham Park.
