the officers life and the public were put in harms way by his superiors and himself...
Coffeenut April 23, 2014 at 07:34 pm
Exactly *. So many lives were put in danger by this cop and his "orders". They chose to doRead More this entrapment exercise in a public parking lot by a Walmart? Really? Innocent people could have been shot. Thankfully it was only the cop who was shot.

again I am so reassured of the compassion of the place I call home. there is no need to attack hisRead More wife or bring his children into it. that makes you a man of no honor
Bob Zorechak April 23, 2014 at 07:07 pm
I don't know any of the parties involved here and I will assume that his wife (and obviouslyRead More children) had no knowledge of what he was doing at the time. This does not change the fact that a major crime was committed here and punishment was meted out. Whether or not it fit the crime is up for debate and I am sure there are many facts that were omitted from the various news reports. I am glad to hear that he is a church going man, for he will need his faith to get him and his family through this difficult period. I do feel badly for his family, especially his children, for they had nothing to do with this. Hopefully he will have plenty of time to think about what he did to his victims and especially his family.

There is no doubt when police officers are visible , it would certainly be a deterrent to crime! IRead More agree with placing NJ State Police in high crime areas, I just don't know how well they are equipped to handle crimes other than traffic stops and protection of Gov. Christie! These state police officers although very highly trained, rarely deal with domestic violence, street or bar brawls, burglaries in progress, stabbings and shootings all within an urban environment. I am not trying to demean The NJ State Police but just stating the fact that they lack the experience that an urban police officer has!
Mr. Happy April 23, 2014 at 03:32 pm
Hi Linda - when the State Police are tasked to one of the cities (Newark, Trenton, Camden,Read More Irvington), they go in as a pro-active force, not re-active; that is to say, they won't be engaging in the response to domestics, bar brawls, etc. The mission is to initiate criminal investigations thru contact with potential violators in high crime areas. It works, at least in the short term.
Linda Maloney April 23, 2014 at 05:33 pm
Thanks@Mr.Happy I wasn't quite sure what role they would play! Agree with you, it would workRead More temporarily!

Speedy trial? Define speedy. Charles Manson and company committed the Tate/LaBianca murders inRead More 1969. The trial wasn’t until two years later. It took over a year before Jack Ruby went on trial for shooting Oswald. And the entire nation saw him do that on TV. The infamous Boston Strangler was caught in early 1964 but wasn’t sentenced until 1967. Its only on Law & Order that it goes from commission of the crime to sentencing in an hour.

Not Domino April 15, 2014 at 01:50 pm
Sad but true, Clay. With these guys behind bars, others will move in to fill the gap. Where there isRead More big easy money to be made, someone will try to make it. Remove the demand, and the supply will fade away. That's the only way to make a long term change.

Google 'cell phone mistaken for gun', and you'll see it's actually pretty common. Just be thankfulRead More the kid wasn't shot dead as Amadou Diallo was when the cops thought his wallet was a gun.
LV Outdoorsman007 April 12, 2014 at 11:02 pm
I can see a cell phone being mistaken for a small Conceleable weapon like a nano pistol.
The guardrail Melvin Travis allegedly crashed into on Christmas night 2013.
Not Jeff April 14, 2014 at 02:53 pm
John, your silence is deafening. You first accuse the writer of not giving both sides of the story.Read More You then accuse a Good Samaritan of lying. At least have the guts to tell people your side of the story. It does not mean we will all believe it or not. Just make your case. Many people in this thread accused posters of jumping to conclusions. Sure seems like John has done the same thing.
Hookerman April 14, 2014 at 05:39 pm
“…you'd have heard how the 'eye witness' was shown to be lying, as the other witnessesRead More testified totally opposite stories.” Which witness was lying? What exactly did he say that was a lie? How do you know it was not true? What did other witnesses say that was at odds with this testimony? How do you know which ‘story’ was true? Johnlv’s post is what is known as a ‘drive by’.

I too wondered why we needed an extra $5000 for the police to do what they do every day. I trulyRead More would be interested in hearing the particulars of how that worked. Maybe then I would understand. I don't right now. I know we have crime in LV but compared to many municipalities it seems that we are relatively quiet here and I would think that would leave enough time for police to patrol. I especially would like to see someone on the stretch down Schooley's Mountain Road going past Camp Washington. People go way over the speed limit and I'm surprised we don't see more crashes at big turn.
LV Taxpayer April 8, 2014 at 07:07 am
I think the extra $5K goes toward overtime so the normal patrols aren't neglected. I also believeRead More they'd rather go after speeders, since a radar rap is harder to beat than "she was observed using a cell phone while driving...". Too much wiggle room for the accused.
Pam Fischer April 8, 2014 at 12:18 pm
The $5K (federal funds) is used to put overtime patrols on the road to address this pervasive andRead More dangerous problem. I'm glad they're out there and hope that the program sends a message to those determined to text or make/take calls that the only thing they should be doing when they're behind the wheel is driving.

I see the self-esteem police have taken over the Patch, just as they have taken over publicRead More education. This bank-robbing loser was put in the Morris County "Correctional Facility." We can't say "jail" any more? Bad for inmates' self-esteem? Just like in school where the standards are lowered so everyone gets on the honor roll and the national honor society, every athlete gets a trophy, and no one takes a "test." Now it's an "assessment." "Correctional facility"....what bu****it!!!

How about crimes against the environment and working people. How about the legal chicanery of theRead More Supreme Court; corporations are people? How about the crime of being above the law or changing the law to legalize misconduct and policy of criminal actions by our leaders? We are all becoming victims of an uncaring unjust system that puts individual rights of property and corporate greed above the people and the future of life here on Earth.

Isn't it about time that banks locate their cameras 6' off the floor and closer to the faces ofRead More their "customers"? ME March 31, 2014 at 02:07 pm
I agree throw away the key on this one, no one should ever sexually assault another person neverRead More mind a child The theft is minor compared to this other crime and he should have been put away when the assault happened, it makes me sick to think my tax dollars pay police, judges, and prosecutors to protect us from aggressive violent criminals and a person convicted of a sexual assault of a minor is ever allowed to be free.

willnj - ya I guess its far too much to ask for timely information from a state with a huge tax billRead More every year. NJ should absoluty be state of the art in everthying with as much money as they get. But instead all that money goes to the 100k pensions they all payout.
Wilnj March 31, 2014 at 02:42 am
@Madison - I so no graphics on that site that would given anywhere near the information thatRead More contained in the press releases. @John - While I agree with you, the pensions aren't going away so demanding more services is just going to add on to the tab, not replace something else.
