We addressed rezoning last year in a big way. We let our Mayor and elected officials know thatRead More ‘we the people’ of Wayne do not want hi density housing. But where exactly does that leave us? We are still awaiting final COAH mandates. Mayor Vergano told us succinctly that Company’s are not moving to Wayne and Wayne does not give tax breaks to businesses. In the same breath we were advised that Businesses want to move to areas where their employees can ‘live, work and play.’ So now, here we are with a newly expanded Economic Development Council to try and draw ‘ratables’ to Wayne. How exactly do we do this? The Board of Education is finalizing their budget. Once again, annually actually, there is another increase looming. The Council will begin working on their budget and I heard it from a Council member there will be another township increase and the County is sure to follow suit. I ask again, how do we entice businesses to move to Wayne? There is no economic incentive to the business nor to the employees. BAE has stated they are leaving Wayne because their employees cannot afford to live here. Our ever increasing taxes are making our community less and less affordable and our home values lower. The Mayor may just be right, businesses, ratables, just may not come to Wayne. If Businesses want to be in communities where there employees can live, work and play and Wayne is not affordable then Mayor Vergano is 100% correct. How then do we reverse this trend? We must stop the ever increasing taxes in this town. Other towns have done it, so too we must. We need to let the Board of Ed and the Township Council hear our objections to yet another annual increase. I have lived in Wayne for 19 years and my taxes have gone up every single year. We need not to accept even a little increase from the Board of Ed or the Town. We need to come out and be heard. Voice your objection to any tax increase. As our taxes continue to rise, and our home values continue to flounder, we are less likely to draw commercial ratables to Wayne. What then, HiDensity housing? Rezoning? The Board of Ed will be hearing public comments tonight and over the next few days. Let your voices be heard.

You don't need clean streets and sidewalks when your high school is rated in the top twenty NewRead More Jersey high schools! Oh wait, you mean HHS is NOT one of New Jersey's top twenty high schools? How could that be? With enrollment down to around 600, class size should be optimal. Where is the promised progress? I guess we'll have to wait for the NJ Monthly and NJDOE rankings to see if we beat Camden, or even Newark! It's sad for the kids who work really hard to do well.

Madeleine I question if you are indeed a christian or just an imposter. You are so adamant about thisRead More God issue , wanting the word God to go away..It's a personal issue isn't it . You can argue with the majority , but you won't win ....I've heard your side and you heard mine . What else are you wanting to change with this country the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. since this won't change.
BellairBerdan April 24, 2014 at 08:05 pm
The word doesn't need to go away. It just needs to leave a government which is not supposed toRead More support any particular religion. Silent, since your position is because the majority wants it, think of this. Islam is the fastest growing religion in the USA and the largest religion in the world. Will you be OK if the majority becomes Muslim and changes the word to Allah because the majority wants it? Or will your position then be that government shouldn't be involved?
SILENT WOLF April 24, 2014 at 08:42 pm
BellairBerdan , You are wrong ,the largest religion in the world is not Islam .There areRead More approximately 2.1 billion christian to your 1.5 billion Islam.. I wouldn't betray my beliefs and wouldn't care what you had in your pledge , mine would remain the same . Sorry I was imposing you were Islamic ,not true right ...?

Brian Hurrel wants proof. There is a terrific book called "Children of the Core." HeRead More wants proof, but I guarantee he won't read this book.
WMS826 April 24, 2014 at 09:46 pm
Proof is all over Brian, just open your eyes. Educators come out of college where they areRead More brainwashed into socialism and political correctness. They are part of this war on our culture and traditions and unfortunately they have our children for seven hours a day. I should have a choice with my tax money on where to apply it for education of my children. If many people opt out of the public system and all but one or two schools in a town remain open and used who cares. The kids still have a school to attend whose parents choose to use for them. We'd fire a bunch of teachers who could then get jobs in the private schools without the pensions and bennies, you guys are here to educate people right, it is not about the money at all..or is it. Save a ton of money, bust the unions, smaller class sizes...choice for parents...what is wrong with that plan.
WMS826 April 24, 2014 at 09:52 pm
Andy Schmidt ...progressive is code word for communism, has been for years. So is the wordRead More "action" . We are at the very beginning of this "fundamental transformation of America "as your man Obama puts it. Please tell me what that means coming from a man who is a known communist and endorsed by the communist party in every election he is in. It all starts with the children...that is how any regime does it.

That's what you get from a regional district. I think it goes something like this. A 1 millionRead More dollar house pays about the same in all districts. However values are much higher outside of long valley. Obviously a million dollar house in long valley pays twice as much as a 500k house in chester. I wonder how state did would be affected? Maybe more for us or less.
Guy Patterson March 31, 2014 at 10:30 pm
A one million dollar house in each community would pay between $4,000 and $5,400 depending on theRead More community. Not a big deal. The problem is what you get for that amount. When one community as a whole gets 15% more of the total share of students educated than what it's paying for, it can be a legitimate issue for some.
Beach Mover March 31, 2014 at 10:31 pm
It is a legitimate issue. The problem is it is the law. It is how regional districts are set up. IRead More guess you have to imagine all the gig towns being one. It would be like Peachtree village being a separate town sending 100 kids and only paying 100k. Then the new town of ridge line off of Coleman road paying 200k and sending 50 kids. If they can legally get out I'm sure they try
Jennifer Simon March 24, 2014 at 09:29 pm
I have no problem with hiring teachers to fill gaps in the new curriculum...especially when it's inRead More the arts which is woefully underserved. I do have a problem with 3 vice principals which make 6 figure salaries. The amount of money spent on administrative personnel in this district (k-8 and High School) is ridiculous! Two superintendants, in k-8 two administrative special ed manager/directors (each at $140k+...and I have a special ed student). Multiple Vice Principals. It's ridiculous! I have NO problem hiring teachers but we could fund this purely through a judicial trimming of administrative personnel. I also have a problem with taking money out of the Capital Reserve. I do believe they will come back next year and claim that there isn't enough in that reserve. As I just said, there are other ways to fund the things they want to do...including trimming a top heavy administration.
roger freiday March 25, 2014 at 07:07 am
i agree with Siimon, if we cut the fat off the top feeders in the ''trough'' we could hire anyRead More number of humble ''workers''. Recall, that when Wash. Twp. wanted the BOE to cut an administrator a few years back, their answer was to let go fifty teacher's aides, people who may have actually DONE WORK. The mayor and Committee were purple, but stated that the ''BOE'' is autonomous'' (in their arrogance.)

Thank you for the Links. I had no idea and I do think they are worth clinking on to get groundedRead More in the individual salaries and pensions of those involved. Glad for this transparency. As I consider both sides of this argument, these facts were helpful to me. Could you please post the links for Chester Borough and Township too?
BHorseBarStool March 22, 2014 at 11:34 am
Great link on salaries....folks look closely....lots and lots of six figure salaries at our HighRead More Schools...and how many classes are the teaching 3, 4, 5....some 0 (the AD at $165,000+++)...SIGN ME UP...it is a free market out there unless your bullied by the union (those days should have been long gone...merit in the 21st century)
Redpony459 March 23, 2014 at 05:32 pm
You have some ignorant people living in your community. I guess that's why the ethicallyRead More challenged, loud mouthed bully of a governor chooses to live among you. All your chatter about your teachers is misguided. From what I understand, you live in one of the highest achieving school districts in the state and the country. I think your teachers demonstrate extraordinary merit. It seems that your bitterness toward them has more to do with your own shabby working conditions. The only whining I hear is yours. In your "Real World" you have chosen to be powerless as an individual. Your teachers, on the other hand, have chosen to bargain collectively. Now you whine about not having the same power or benefits. Why don't you join a union rather than Demanding that others race to the bottom alongside you.
Guy Patterson March 25, 2014 at 05:28 pm
@Stig - I would agree. These morons are only repeating themselves.

I plead the 2nd tchk tchk April 22, 2014 at 04:12 pm
Marie, why are you conditioned to think that someone that needs pay more taxes because they have aRead More larger house? Why do you think that is fair? Why do you think that if someone spends money keeping their house nice, they need to be penalized with higher taxes? Shouldn't someone should be allowed to keep their house nice? So according to you, it is fair if I buy a house and let the paint go and let the place degenerate and I can have my taxes lowered. you are brilliant.
John Santaella April 22, 2014 at 04:16 pm
I plead the 2nd tchk tchk it doesn't work that way. Ask your town assessor about that.
Marie Intili April 22, 2014 at 05:49 pm
I didnt say you have to pay more taxes if you have a bigger house! Or a nicer house...you areRead More taking my words out of context! A two family home that is zoned for two families should only have two families living in it! Not 10 families! Thats all I said...I said nothing about letting your paint go or getting penelized with a higher tax because of size.....only what its zoned for!

Rick Ricky March 15, 2014 at 02:05 pm
Schools in general is nothing but fakes. Not even close to accurate. To many reasons to list. YouRead More have to many dishonest people involved in the outcome in changes that shouldn't be. Yes, schools play to make it look one way that is not even close to what it should be. They rig the outcome to make their school look good for certain students who they might have a connection with in some way. You can have students who rank higher in lower level classes that are not even close in comparison that has no business being 2 or 3 in a class.
SH Resident March 15, 2014 at 12:22 am
Hey Joe-90% tax rate existed with a number of signifigant loopholes that resulted in a nominal taxRead More rate in the mid 40s for the highest earners...stop getting your talking points from MSNBC and think for yourself. and even if you took every dollar from the top 10% of earners in this nation, we would still have a deficit...spending is the issue, not revenue....do you get that fact or does your hatred for the wealthy cloud your ability to digest reality...
Joe R March 15, 2014 at 08:51 am
Hey SH, in the 1950s, the top marginal tax rate was 91% and the effective tax rate was about 51%Read More after the loopholes. Oh, so we don't have loopholes today??!? Ha, ha, ha. The current top marginal tax rate is 39.6% but that's before all the loopholes. The effective tax rate is even lower than 39.6%. JFK eliminated many of the loopholes and reduced the top marginal tax rate to 74%. That works for me.
SH Resident March 15, 2014 at 07:02 pm
Joe-I will agree to raise the marginal tax rate to 50%...what programs other than defense do youRead More propose to cut? Exactly none is probably your answer...cutting defense and raising taxes does not get us to a balanced budget...we need to cut spending...you socialists never seem to get that point...and moreover, how about EVERYONE has some skin in the game and has to pay some income tax.... you will never want to cut spending on social programs because then how will you bribe low information voters to win elections?

Michelle, you tell the Superintendent what to do. Not the other way around. You should always askRead More what the impications are but BOE members are his boss.
Mac March 6, 2014 at 06:05 am
Professional development days and NJEA Conference should be done in the summer, when the teachersRead More are off, adding 4 days when the kids can be in school during the year. Many other licensed professionals in the state are required to take continuing education credits to maintain licensure and do it on their own time. It also would be interesting to know the rationale behind the 180 day mandate. Over the years the kids have come home the last week of school saying the did "nothing". Time for some "common sense"...

@ Kristin DiStefano - Your grammar is atrocious and have you heard of paragraphs? P.S. you are aRead More teacher, not a counselor - stay in your own lane. That is the biggest problem with the façade that is today's "teaching profession". Today's schools are nothing but codependent social engineering facilities.

What Natalie said. Family vacations are definitely more important than a few missed days of school.
Reality Chuck February 18, 2014 at 12:12 pm
