Rifles, Loads of Ammo Found in Car, Police Say

North Carolina resident faces weapons charges following motor vehicle stop in Mt. Olive.

A North Carolina man traveling along Route 46 Wednesday night was arrested after police found multiple guns and boxes of ammunition, Mt. Olive Police Officer Michael Russell said. Eric Johnson, 64, was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and manufacture of a dangerous weapon after police conducted a search of his vehicle, Russell said. Johnson was stopped at 9:52 p.m. by Det. Michael Zarro for an equipment violation, Russell said. Johnson gave his consent for a search of the vehicle, which yielded two rifles, multiple high capacity magazines, handgun accessories, and numerous boxes of ammunition, Russell said. Better get a good lawyer. Minimum mandatory sentence is five years in state prison. All the stuff he has is perfectly legal in most states, but not here.   more ›
