Pizza Place Profits to Aid Sick School Nurse

Bob's Pizza in Long Valley will hold fund raiser for Susan Moor, cancer-fighting faculty member of West Morris Central High School.

One gesture of good will has led to another, and one that could potentially aid a West Morris Central faculty member’s family greatly. Susan Moor, a nurse at the school who is currently undergoing treatments in her battle with breast cancer, was the subject of a contentious issue between the West Morris Regional Board of Education and Teacher’s Association for the first half of the school year. The Association asked the Board to consider establishing a sick bank, where faculty members could donate unused sick days for Moor to use for herself as she fought the disease. The sides couldn’t agree on terms in mid-December, eliminating the possibility for this school year. But it was the Association’s effort that made a local business spring …

Prospective 'Sick Bank' Recipient's Husband Speaks Out

Joseph Moor, whose wife, Susan is the West Morris Central Nurse battling cancer, provides clarification of his family's circumstances.

Over the past week, the Teacher's Association's rejection of a sick bank arrangement offered by the West Morris Regional School District and the faculty in the school began their own fundraising campaign has been a hot topic of debate, but all of that is secondary to Joseph Moor. Moor and his wife Susan, a nurse at West Morris Central currently battling breast cancer, are preparing for her surgery next week and while the behind the scenes talk of the sick bank is far from a priority, Joseph Moor addresses the controversy and his family's role in it in his latest blog. The sick bank action came about this year to aid Susan Moor who lost all of her accumulated sick days in the spring of 2012 when her 8-year-old daughter died. The sick bank …

Teachers Rally For Colleague With Cancer

With a 'sick bank' not an option, West Morris Regional faculty try alternate means of help.

Despite the impasse on a sick bank deal between the Board and Association, faculty members at both West Morris Central and Mendham will continue their efforts to help Susan Moor, a nurse at West Morris Central currently battling breast cancer. Moor lost all of her accumulated sick days in the spring of 2012 when her 8-year-old daughter died. Faculty members at both high schools will be wearing professionally-acceptable jeans throughout the final week of January as part of the Dollars for Denim campaign, Teacher’s Association President Joyce Hartmann said. Dollars for Denim is usually held each Friday, where faculty members can wear more casual clothing and donate funds to charities. During this week of the program, faculty members will be …

'Unacceptable' Sick Bank Deal Rejected By Teachers

West Morris Regional Board of Education, Teacher's Association can't come to terms on action to aid ill colleague.

An effort by faculty members to donate unused sick time to ill colleagues in the West Morris Regional High School district won’t come to fruition, after the Teacher’s Association and Board of Education could not agree on terms. The idea of a “sick bank” was brought to the board in September 2012, and the nine-member group discussed the possibility behind closed doors at three different meetings, for more than five hours total, according to Superintendent Mackey Pendergrast. A sick bank would allow faculty members to donate unused sick days to a colleague who has run out of them and is no longer being paid for time missed. Of the district’s 240 faculty members in the association, 150 signed a petition asking the board to allow this …
