New business enterprises and volunteer groups in Washington Township.
Long Valley Patch learned about a bevy of changes being made to Washington Township in the coming weeks, months and years, and reported on as much of it as possible. As always, if you’re looking for a full plate of news from the past week, go here. For the bigger headlines, continue reading. At the beginning of the week, we published three stories about two new Long Valley land owners, whose visions could transform the township for years to come. Dr. Ron Weiss has purchased hundreds of acres of land to farm and create a homeopathic-style wellness center on West Mill Road. Just next door, Sean Campbell, a hedge fund manager who also bought hundreds of acres of land, will begin a hard apple cider orchard and operate it like a winery. To see …

Ronald Weiss will begin alternative medicine wellness center on West Mill Road.
Leaving a traditional medical practice in West New York to create a farm and vegetarian-based wellness center in Long Valley, for some doctors, may seem unusual. Maybe even a little bit crazy. But for Dr. Ronald Weiss of Guttenberg, New Jersey, it’s a dream come true, more than 20 years in the making. Weiss recently purchased 363 acres of land on West Mill Road for $2.525 million, a deal that took nearly two years to complete. Along with his wife and two children, Weiss will live on the land he farms and says will change Long Valley–and the medical industry–for the better. The farm and wellness center will be called The Promised Land, Weiss said, as he plans to treat patients with a preventative form of medicine, introducing fresh foods …

New business endeavors expected to bring German Valley feeling back to town.
In the coming months and years, 740 acres of preserved land on West Mill Road in Long Valley will be transformed into a wellness center and apple cidery based on the visions of two men pursuing their respective passions. The land, most recently owned by the late Jack Borgenicht, a millionaire and philanthropist who invested in real estate throughout the township, was sold in two separate parcels–one to Dr. Ronald Weiss and the other to businessman Sean Campbell. For Weiss, closing on the property took nearly two years, according to his real estate agent Mary Grant, a Long Valley resident. Grant assisted Weiss in the transaction not just on the business end, but when soil samples were needed from the farm to ensure it was of the quality the…

As a bergen county resident for over 18 years, I had witnessed the tear down and degradation of prime local farms and land in the Saddle River Valley. It was not until 4 years ago that my family made a conscious decision to pick up and move, and we literally stumbled across Long Valley. It is certainly a place that has refused to cave in to the destruction of our precious farmland. I feel blessed…   more ›
