Road Naming Honor Highlights Memorial Day Event

Washington Township Recreation Department sets time, date, keynote speaker for annual ceremony.

One of the biggest events of the year in Washington Township, the annual Memorial Day ceremony has been set for 2013, this time honoring fallen heroes in perpetuity. On Saturday, May 25 at Rock Spring Park at the War Memorial Site, residents, officials and veterans alike will remember those who went to war and paid the ultimate price while fighting for the United States of America. The event will kick off at noon, saluting servicemen and servicewomen, with keynote spearker James Smith, Sr. Smith, a former Long Valley resident and member of the armed forces, lost his son, Army Cpl. Town Asks: How Should We Celebrate 275 Years?

Washington Township Recreation Department looking for resident input.

We've said it before and we'll say it for the rest of the year: Happy 275th Birthday, Long Valley! That's right, we're getting older–but wiser, of course–and it's time to celebrate an historic 275 years here in Washington Township. The Historical Society is running a presentation program, and there are other plans in the works from local groups. The Washington Township Recreation Committee is looking for resident input about what kind of event it should hold this summer. The group has a plethora of options to choose from. Vote in our poll below for how you'd like to celebrate 275 years with the rec committee. As always, thanks for your participation!

See The Circus With Twp. Rec Department

Deadline to register is March 9.

Washington Township Recreation, in a joint effort with other townships, is co-sponsoring a trip to see Ringling Brother's Barnum and Bailey Circus "Dragons" on Sunday, March 18 at the Izod Stadium.  The cost for this event is $40 per person. The bus will depart from the Mt. Olive Wal-Mart parking lot at 11 a.m. and will return at approximately 4 p.m. Deadline to register is March 9.
