Central Swimmers End Season With a Splash

Personal bests and notches in the win column highlight the 2012-13 season finale.

Wouldn’t it be gratifying for the swim team to close out the season with a win?  The West Morris Central girls team did just that against Madison High School. While the margin of victory was not quite as large, it was convincing enough to show that the team had grown more mature and experienced than at the start of the season. First, for team performance and lots of points, the girls won the 200-meter Medley relay and 200-meter Free relay races. Secondly, the girls pretty much swept all the individual races. Freshman Kowalewski who just came off the disability list quickly re-established herself by taking first place in the 200 meters and 100 meters Free. Swimmers Bounce Back, Take Down Pequannock

14 personal bests set at recent meet.

After a setback against Chatham the week prior, both the West Morris Central girls and boys teams came out ahead in their meet against Pequannock High School. The girls team won by quite a large margin while the boys barely glided by their opponent. At the end of the day, a win is still a win! The girls controlled the meet by winning all three relay races with Ungemach (SR)/Shannon (SR)/McKenna (SO)/Crowley (FR) swimming the 200 yard Medley, Kowalewski (FR)/Shannon (SR)/Lamperti (SR)/Castaneda (FR) taking the 200 yard Free, and Kowalewski (FR)/Ungemach (SR)/Crowley (FR)/Castadena (FR) completing the 400 yard Free. Swimmers Lap Parsippany in Dual Meet Victory

Girls' team notches first win of the season.

Fans of the West Morris Central Swim team had their wish fulfilled when their team swam against Parsippany High School on January 8. Both boys and girls team won big. This was the second consecutive win for the boys and first, for the girls. The girls pretty much dominated their meet, sweeping all three relay races with Ungemach (SR)/Shannon (SR)/Nugent (FR)/Crowley (FR) taking the 200 meter Medley, Crowley (FR)/Lamperti (SR)/Kowalewski (FR)/Castaneda (FR) winning the 200 meter Free, and Kowalewski (FR)/Armenti (JR)/Lamperti (SR) and Castadena (FR) finishing off with the 400 meter Free. Central Swimmers Show Promise in First Meet

Dual meet ends in two losses to sister-school Mendham.

The following article and photos have been submitted by Paul Vinh. The West Morris Central Swim team started the season with a dual meet against Mendham on Wednesday, Dec. 5. Coming to this first meet, the team had been training hard under the direction of a new head coach, Jim Beatrice, and returning assistant coach, Christian Hildreth. This year’s team comprises of 13 seniors, 16 juniors, 9 sophomores, and 17 freshmen. The girls’ team lost to the more experienced Mendham team. However, the freshmen proved that they had the potential to make a significant impact in future meets.  Freshman Sierra Castaneda took second in both the 200 Meters IM (2:33.42) and 200 Meters Free (4:52.52). 2011-12 West Morris Central Winter Sports

WMC Swim Teams Have Tough Week in the Pool

Swimmers drop meet to Morristown.

The West Morris Boys and Girls Swim Team had a busy week in the pool. Both teams participated in the U & Me Invitational, each finishing in 11th place.  Senior Katie Papa led the scoring with a third place finish in the 200 Individual Medley, and a fourth place finish in 400 Freestyle. Also scoring for the girls was Paige Stricker finishing 7th in the 200 Free, and 9th in the 400 Free.   Leading the scoring for the boys was Michael Schommer with a 9th place finish in the 400 Free, and a 12th place finish in the 200 Free. Aaron Vinh rounded out the scoring with an 11th place finish in the 100 Free. Both teams competed against Morristown on Tuesday, Jan. 24. The boy's team lost by a score of 119-51.
