Long Valley Man Dies After Jet Ski Collision With Brother

Matthew Barther was pronounced dead at Community Medical Center in Toms River Sunday.

Matthew Barther, 24, of Long Valley died Sunday after he collided with his brother on a personal watercraft, according to New Jersey State Police Sgt. Chris Rogers.

Barther and his brother, Patrick, 20, were in Barnegat Bay north of the Route 37 bridge in Toms River when their vehicles collided, police said. Patrick Barther suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash.

After the collision, Patrick Barther climbed back onto his watercraft and was able to pull his brother aboard, and headed to the shore, the report says.

The water crafts being used were jet skis, police said.

The cause of death is not yet known and the investigation is ongoing.
