Construction on Rt. 57 in Mansfield Township within the next several months will have an effect on Washington Township residents beginning next week, according to Lt. Doug Compton.
Compton, who has received information from the New Jersey Department of Transportation as well as Mansfield Township police regarding the matter, has been informed residents in the Kings Highway, Old Turnpike Road and Stephensburg Road areas may need to plan alternate routes when traveling along Rt. 57.
The construction is to fix or replace existing superstructures on three Rt. 57 bridges between Airport Road and Anderson Road, one of which is located over Hances Brook, between Kings Highway and Old Turnpike Road.
That specific project, however, isn’t scheduled to begin until April, Compton said. Detour signs have been posted in the area and the initial truck detour is expected to begin Friday, Feb. 22. The local traffic detour will begin Friday, March 1, according to the DOT.
The local detour, as previously reported on Patch, will stop westbound traffic on Rt. 57 at Airport Road, just behind the WalMart store in Mansfield Township. Motorists will head north on Airport Road, west on Rockport Road, which then becomes Main Street and eventually Port Murray Road, and filtered back on to Rt. 57 in Mansfield Township.
No traffic heading east from Warren County will be interrupted, Compton said.
The DOT expects the work to last through Oct. 2013. H&G Contractors from Ridgewood will be conducting the work.
