Family Fun Green Festival Set for August at Rock Spring Park

Third annual event to have historic baseball game, entertainment and dozens of vendors.

For the third straight August Washington Township will be going green and having fun with locals in what has now become a community day.

The Washington Township Green Festival and Family Fun Day is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 16 from noon to 4 p.m. at Rock Spring Park, and will be preceded by an old-timey baseball game with players wearing historic uniforms at 11:30 a.m.

The event, organized by the Washington Township Recreation Committee and Green Team, will showcase vendors and exhibits educating attendees on sustainable living and being “green.”

Plenty of family-friendly activities will be available as well, including a dunk tank, a demonstration by the Washington Township Police K-9 Unit, and an appearance by Rizzo’s Reptiles.

Recreation Commission chairman Brian Bartiromo said he expects about 35 vendors to be on hand for the community event.

Food will also be served, and attendees can buy a hot dog or hamburger for just $1, and play games for the same. In lieu of the cost for food, residents can bring items to donate to the Washington Township Food Pantry, Bartiromo said.

The Long Valley Raiders Football Association will also be on hand to hold a punt, pass and kick demonstration, Bartiromo said.

Anyone interested in joining the all-volunteer Recreation Commission can contact 908-876-5941. The commission currently has nine members and is best served with 12, Bartiromo said.
