Memorial Day Ceremony to Take Over Rock Spring Park Saturday

Ceremony will begin at noon; park closed to all other activities.

Come to be known as one of the best community affairs in Washington Township over the years, the Washington Township Memorial Day Ceremony will once again take over Rock Spring Park to honor those who lost their lives serving this country.

This year’s event will be held at noon – rain or shine – on Saturday, May 24 at the War Memorial Site at the park. CPT. Anthony Roberts, a member of the New Jersey Army National Guard for 14 years and member of the Army for 21 years will be the keynote speaker. Roberts currently serves as the commander of headquarters company 50th Brigade Special Troops Battalion as the battalion’s training officer.

Last year's Memorial Day event honored our fallen soldiers with an emphasis on Long Valley native and Army Cpl. James "Jamie" Smith, who died in Somalia in 1993. The road that leads to the War Memorial Site was named in his honor.
