Brooklyn Nets New Chief Operating Officer is Centenary Alum

Fred Mangione credited with turning Barclays Center into country's top venue.

When Fred Mangione was studying business administration and marketing at Centenary College in Hackettstown 20 years ago, chances are he wasn’t thinking he’d be an executive with a professional sports team somewhere down the road.

Or, maybe he did. And maybe that’s why he’s been named the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets new Chief Operating Officer for the team and its arena, the Barclays Center.

Mangione recently served as Executive Vice President, Chief Marketing Officer and Chief Revenue Officer for the team and venue. Under his watch, the newly built Barclays Center became the top United States venue for ticket sales revenue and tickets sold within its first year of operation, according to Centenary College.

Mangione hasn’t forgotten his roots, either. In March he served as the keynote speaker for Centenary’s Third Annual Sports Management Conference, and received the college’s Distinguished Alumni Award in 2012.

“He mentors our students and graduates and is an executive of one of the 30 basketball teams who are part of the NBA,” said David Perricone, Assistant Professor of Sports Management at Centenary College in a statement.  “We are fortunate that he is one of our own.”
