Quick Tip: Long Valley Has Plenty of Facts

Washington Township has a huge wing span.

Well it’s Friday, finally, and it’s time to kick back, relax and enjoy the weekend. And since we gave you a nice list of things to do this weekend on Thursday, which can be seen here, we’ll change it up a bit for today. Last week we spent a morning talking about five different places or items named Long Valley. Today, let’s see what interesting facts there are to know about Long Valley and Washington Township.

Did You Know: Although located in Morris County, Washington Township is actually bordered by Hunterdon, Somerset and Warren counties. The township is also bordered by Lebanon Township; Mansfield Township; Hackettstown; Mt. Olive Township; Chester Township; Tewksbury Township; and Bedminster Township. Talk about being in touch with the surrounding areas.

Did You Know: Long Valley is just a small portion of Washington Township. It’s located along the bottom of Schooley’s Mountain, with marking the center point of the town. Although Washington Township is approximately 46 square miles, Long Valley is just 4.7 of those.

Did You Know: Long Valley was actually first called German Valley, when it was settled in the 1700s by immigrants from Saxony, Germany. It was renamed Long Valley during World War I.

Did You Know: As of the , Washington Township has 18,533 residents. Approximately 4,000 of those residents are students enrolled in township’s schools. 13,218 of those residents are 18 or older.
