Schools Enhance Security–Is It Enough?

In the weeks since the tragic massacre in Newtown, Connecticut, schools around the country have reevaluated their security measures. We learned this week that nearby Mt. Olive High School is one vote away from implementing an armed guard in its high school, and asked you if the same–or other measures–should happen in our local schools. School’s IB Program Draws Global Interest

West Morris Central High School implemented the International Baccalaureate program in the previous decade to give students a different view of learning topics. It’s been done so well, though, that the school was chosen by Rutgers University to host delegates from Japan who want to spread IB into the country’s public schools.

Budd Lake Teens Memorialized With Sign

Two weeks after the tragic loss of two male teens in the icy waters of Budd Lake, Mt. Olive Township has placed a sign along the water memorializing the names of Nick Cianciotto III and Clyde Schimanski III. A more formal ceremony will take place in the spring, according to the town’s mayor.

Town Asks: How Should We Celebrate 275 Years?

2013 is Washington Township’s 275th Birthday, and the town is celebrating. The Washington Township Recreation Committee is seeking different ways to plan an event, and has asked residents what they’d most like to see. Check it and vote in the poll.

Central Fencer Earns Top Spot at County Tourney

West Morris Central Fencer Tim Salmon took home the gold in last weekend’s Morris County Tournament in the Epee field, followed by teammate Mike Berezny in third. Both the girls’ and boys’ teams competed very well in the tournament with top-5 finishes all around.
