Holiday-shortened week had no shortage of stories.

The past week was highlighted by one of the year’s most celebrated holidays, filled with food and fun. But there was still news to be reported and issues to be explored.

Insider Trading Scam Allegedly Centered Around Long Valley Man

U.S. Attorney Paul Fishman announced this week a slew of charges against a handful of New Jersey residents for allegedly netting more than $1.4 million in profits for insider trading. The ringleader of the operation, according to Fishman, is a Long Valley resident and financial executive at a pharmaceutical company.

Fallen Heroes Honored With Street Names

After a presentation by members of the American Veterans Association of Washington Township at this week’s township committee meeting, it was decided that three local roads would be renamed to honor residents who were killed in action serving the country. Two roads are on private property, and a third leads into the Senior Citizens Center at Rock Spring Park.

West Morris Central junior Jake Papa set out to collect 2,400 books for children in New Jersey this fall by asking residents to lend a hand. What came of the project was more than 4,000 donated books and a pick-up truck load of goods headed to Bridge of Books Foundation in Red Bank.

Gift Cards Sought for Family Displaced by Fire

On Tuesday, a family of five lost their apartment in nearby Hackettstown after a fire gutted their home.
