Week in Review: Trailblazers and Trees in Long Valley

Longtime Long Valley resident and volunteer Shirley Gillette passed away this summer, and her friends and family members had plenty of wonderful things to say about the trailblazer. To read about her life and accomplishments, .

The Washington Township Committee’s regular meeting on Monday night yielded plenty of news, as the governing body approved a new ordinance regarding property maintenance. . The committee also awarded bids to two hunting clubs for use of municipal land. . It was also decided that the Long Valley Raiders football program would be allowed to use temporary field lights for the 2011 season while they wait on a decision from the planning board regarding new permanent lights. .

The Historic Preservation Commission of Washington Township also met this week, and learned that a resident was in violation of some of the fine print regarding upgrades to his historic home.

The battle for the Republican candidate’s spot in the Freeholder election this November continues, as a judge made a ruling for the next steps in the Margaret Nordstrom vs. Hank Lyon race. To learn more about what’s going on, .

Finally, Long Valley was hit with a pretty nasty storm on Thursday night, and as a result, a tree fell and took down a utility pole, closing Schooley’s Mountain Road between Pleasant Grove and Flocktown Roads for most of Friday. .
