Week in Review: Twp. Changing With the Season

Third annual Tour de Long Valley now accepting registrations.

The kids headed back to school this week, the temperatures dipped slightly (but were still warmer than usual for this time of year), and, as always, the news was abundant.

We kicked off the week with a profile on the , which didn’t exist three years ago. Located on Heath Lane, the church, which formerly housed the Schooley’s Mountain Presbyterian congregation, now incorporates two other local churches, and has undergone renovations to sustain itself in the future. .

In our weekly column about vacant (or soon to be vacant) stores and land spaces, we wanted readers to chime in on what should go in the current Blockbuster Video retail space. The store will be closing in the coming months, and no new business has been named to occupy the area. ?

Registration is officially underway for the third annual Tour de Long Valley, which will hit Washington Township’s roads on July 29. The event was such a success last year, that organizers have added a third course and expanded the amount of riders able to participate. . Check out photos from .

The Washington Township Committee met on Wednesday night for its monthly work session, and discussed the possibility of adding Internet service to the Senior Center at Rock Spring Park. Committeeman Tracy Tobin brought up the topic, and said he’ll be seeking out best rates for the building. .

At that same township committee meeting, residents Cecile Marie and John Howard, along with their attorney and engineer, requested the township restructure part of the roadway in front of their home because of major flooding. The homeowners said they’ve been overtaken by water nine times in 10 years because of how the roadway is constructed, and are seeking help.
