Girl Scouts Pound Pavement to Populate Pantry's Shelves

Troop 405 in Washington Twp. collected and organized food pantry donations to earn Bronze Award, help neighbors in need.

Another week, another amazing community service by local scouts.

This time a group of Girl Scouts – all of which are fifth graders at Flocktown School – came together to support the Washington Township Food Pantry.

The pantry is currently at critically low levels as an increase in need impacts the center during summer months.

Members of Troop 405, Danielle Even, Kaitlyn Holveck, Sarah Garcia, Jordan Jackson, Emily Skrzat, Emily Caulfield, Kayla Mahmarian, Aidan Commerford and Karley Jankowski, took time to put flyers in homes around Washington Township advertising for a food donation and drop-off locations that would benefit the pantry.

Scouts also put collection bins outside their own homes and at the Washington Township Library. When the donation deadline was over, the troop spent two afternoons bringing food to the pantry, organizing donations, restocking and organizing the shelves.

Members of the troop were able to earn their bronze award with the effort and, even better, help families in need in the Washington Township area.
