Alleged Burglar Ran Off With Phone, Stole $500 Ring

Long Valley woman was named a 'Wanted Person' by the Morris County Prosecutor's Office.

An alleged burglar from Long Valley, who was named a "Wanted Person" by the Morris County Prosecutor's Office, was charged with receiving stolen property in Hackettstown Wednesday after police said she asked to borrow a person's cell phone and ran away with it.

Mary Olcese, 21, was arrested after police responded to a complaint around 4:30 p.m. at the 200 block of Mountain Avenue, according to Hackettstown Police Sgt. Darren Tynan. A person said Olcese had asked to borrow the phone and fled with it. Officers were able to "ping" the phone and found Olcese with it at the intersection of Liberty Street and Franklin Street, Tynan said.

Olcese, who at the time also had warrants for her arrest for a $500 Hackettstown  criminal court warrant, a $500 Hackettstown traffic court warrant and was named a "Wanted Person" for failure to show up to court on heroin possession charges, was turned over the Independence Township police in connection with a burglary in that town, Tynan said.

On June 14, an Independence Township residence reported a burglary in which a men's gold ring, valued at $500, was stolen. Through an investigation, police found the ring on June 11 after she had sold it to The Gold Mine in Hackettstown, Tynan said.

Olcese was charged on Thursday for receiving stolen property in Independence.
