Bicyclist in Critical Condition After Suffering Head Trauma, Cops Say

Allison Schmitt was unable to communicate and tell first responders what happened, police report.

A Long Valley woman was flown to Morristown Medical Center Monday afternoon after striking her head on West Valley Brook Road when she fell from her bike, Washington Township police said.

Police responded to the scene under the report of a bicyclist being struck by a car, Lt. Art Adams said. When Officer Phil Seabeck arrived on the scene, he found Allison Schmitt, 47, lying on the ground, Adams said.

A preliminary investigation, however, showed Schmitt was not actually struck by a car, but there was also no indication of what caused Schmitt to fall and hit her head, Adams said.

Schmitt is currently in critical condition at the hospital, a representative said.

She was then flown to Morristown Medical Center by Atlantic Air One after being treated by the Long Valley First Aid Squad. An investigation is ongoing, as Schmitt was unable to communicate when being treated, Adams said.
