Cause Not Yet Known for Fire That Destroyed Nestlingwood Home

Homeowners safe, no first responders injured, police report.

The cause behind what started a fire that tore through a two-story Colonial home Tuesday night is still unknown, and an active investigation is ongoing, Washington Township Police said Wednesday morning.

When police responded to the home at 2 Nestlingwood Drive at 8:38 p.m., the home was fully engulfed in flames, Lt. Mark Niemynski said. The owner of the home told a 9-1-1 dispatcher that all occupants were outside and safe, Niemynski said.

Police then began to block off roadways as all three Washington Township fire companies arrived, as well as mutual aid companies from surrounding towns.

The blaze was knocked down in about 45 minutes but the home is uninhabitable, Niemynski said. No first responders were injured while battling the fire.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is being conducted by the Washington Township Police Detective Bureau.
