Cops: Body Found In River Was Hackettstown Man

Candido Bonilla was reported missing on Dec. 30.

The body was that of 55 year-old Candido Bonilla of Hackettstown, according to Hackettstown Police Det. Darren Tynan.

Bonilla was reported missing on Dec. 30 by family members and friends after he had not been seen or heard from since Dec. 27, Tynan said.

There is nothing that indicates anything suspicious for the cause of death at this point in the investigation, which is still ongoing, Tynan said. The official cause of death has not yet been released by the medical examiner.

Bonilla’s body was found wedged in a logjam in the river on Tuesday morning by owners of Greenway Flowers in Washington Township. His body was retrieved by the Mt. Olive Fire Department Swift Water team.

The Morris County Sheriff's Department assisted in the investigation.
