Cops: Man Wanted for Burglary Had Heroin Bags

Hopatcong resident lodged in Warren County jail, police say.

A Hopatcong man was arrested in Hackettstown and charged with drug possession when police questioned him about a crime in his hometown, Det. Darren Tynan said.

Hackettstown Police observed a vehicle on Mountain Avenue that was wanted in connection with a crime in Hopatcong, Tynan said. Police approached the driver, Michael Rey II, 24, who gave consent to search the vehicle, Tynan said.

Police found six packs of prescription drug Suboxone and a bundle of empty bags of heroin, Tynan said. Rey also had a hypodermic needle and told police he did not have a prescription for Suboxone, Tynan said.

Rey was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of a hypodermic needle and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Rey was also charged with burglary and conspiracy to commit burglary by Hopatcong Police. Sgt. Meghan Antonello said no further details could be immediately released.

He was lodged in the Warren County Correctional Facility in lieu of $7,500 bail.
