Man Burned in Hackettstown Apt. Fire

Blaze contained to one apartment on Main Street.

A man sustained burns from a structure fire on Main Street Monday night when a Hackettstown apartment building ignited, according to Police Det. Darren Tynan.

The Hackettstown Fire Department, Police and Rescue Squad responded to 137 Main Street just after 9:30 p.m. and saw heavy smoke coming from the third floor apartment, Tynan said.

Crews were able to keep the blaze within one apartment, and an adjacent apartment received water damage from extinguishing the blaze. The burn victim was airlifted to St. Barnabas Hospital Burn Center to treat his injuries, Tynan said.

His name and condition is not being released by authorities at this time.

Rt. 46 was closed between Grand Avenue and Valentine Street, and Grand Avenue was closed between Washington Street and Rt. 46 for about three hours.

The cause of the fire is still undetermined and is being investigated by the Hackettstown Police Detective Bureau, Hackettstown Fire Marshal, and the Warren County Fire Marshal.

Assisting at the scene was the Hackettstown Police, Hackettstown Ladies Auxiliary, Hackettstown Office Of Emergency Management, Washington Borough Fire Department, Tri-County Fire Department, Allamuchy Fire Department, Budd Lake Fire Department, Mansfield Township Police Department, Independence Township Police Department, Hackettstown Building Inspector, American Red Cross, Atlantic Air 1, St. Clare’s Medic Unit and JCP&L.
