'Suspicious' Man on Rt. 46 Had Cross-Country Warrants, Police Say

Hackettstown resident picked up by Washington Township Police, will be extradited to California, report says.

A Hackettstown man acting suspiciously on Route 46 was extradited to California after Washington Township Police conducted a search revealing numerous warrants, Lt. Art Adams said.

Just before 10 p.m. on Friday, Sgt. Jeff Almer responded to the area of 3 Rt. 46 for a man “acting suspiciously” on the bridge, Adams said. When Almer arrived, he found Maurice Blacknall, 44, and removed him from the roadway, Adams said.

Almer then conducted a search into Blacknall and found numerous warrants for his arrest out of multiple jurisdictions, including Morris County and an active full extradition warrant out of Los Angeles, California, Adams said.

After contacting the Los Angeles Police Department, Washington Township Police were told Blacknall would in fact be extradited, Adams said. The warrant related to a controlled dangerous substance charge, Adams said.

Blacknall was arrested and then transported to Morris County Correctional Facility by Morris Township Police, who had a warrant for the man in the amount of $1,000.
