Voting Centers Relocated Due to Twp. Outages

Spoiled food can be disposed of Saturday morning as JCP&L rolls into town.

On Nov. 6, polls are scheduled to be open for the General Election from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Some of Washington Township’s polling places, however, may still be without power come Tuesday.

Washington Township announced Friday all residents scheduled to vote at West Morris Central High School and the Municipal Building would now vote at the First Aid Squad building at 40 East Mill Road. 

Residents normally voting at Flocktown School will now punch ballots at the Senior Center at 34 East Springtown Road.

Voting booths were scheduled to be delivered to town on Saturday, Washington Township Mayor Ken Short said. 

Jersey Central Power & Light crews were heading into town Friday afternoon and water and ice were being made available to residents at the Washington Township Library as day four without power in the area began winding down.

Deputy Superintendent of the Department of Public Works Roger Reed said JCP&L tree-cutting crews were spotted on Fawnridge and Flocktown Roads, and believed the were working their way from Hackettstown southward into the township.

Ice and water were being made available to residents at the Washington Township Library from 2 to 5 p.m. Friday as well. Residents were invited to pick up those items as long as supplies lasted, Washington Township Police Chief Michael Bailey said.

Washington Township also announced it would offer a dumpster to township residents to rid their homes of spoiled food at the Department of Public Works on Rock Road from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. Identification is required.

In addition to the 6,943 residences still without power in town, matters were made worse as the week came to end, when Verizon cell phone service became interrupted, Bailey said.
