Central Students Place Sixth at National Competition

History documentary named best in New Jersey.

A group of female students from West Morris Central High School finished sixth overall in the National History Day Competition at the University of Maryland this week, and were given the top honor in the state of New Jersey.

Sophomores Lorrin Van Evra, Kiera Montgomery, Jennifer Weippert and junior Halina Malinowski, who had been working on a documentary about the Little Rock Nine since September, were named to the top 14 in the country on Tuesday night, and placed sixth overall on Thursday.

Two projects from each state in the country, in addition to U.S. territories such as Guam and Puerto Rico, made up the competition's entries.
