Regional Board of Education President Resigns

Washington Township's Cristen Forrester resigns as board leader; new President and Vice President from Chester and Mendham elected.

West Morris Regional School Board President announced Monday she would be resigning from her duties on the board as the president, but will stay on the board as a representative.

The news came abruptly at the board’s regular meeting at Mendham High School when Forrester, the governing body’s head for the past four years, addressed her colleagues. Forrester was re-elected to a three-year term in April of 2011.

"I'm not currently able to put my full attention to the board in this capacity," Forrester said. "And this board deserves a president who can focus their full attention on the duties (of the board)."

The board then moved to replace Forrester just moments later, with Marcia Asdal and Vice President being nominated by peers.

With a vote of 7-2, Johnston was named as president.

Once Johnston was elected to the position, the board was required to elect a new vice president.

The board, with another 7-2 vote, named Mendham Borough representative Jacke Schram to the vice president position.
