$6K in Contributions Given to Township Schools

Businesses and organizations in the community feel the Washington Township School District is doing great, and have poured in more than $6,000 in contributions to the group of four schools.

Three separate contributions have been given to the district for various purposes, and will be dispersed throughout the district.

The Washington Township Target department store, through its Target Take Charge of Education program, has contributed $2,125.46 to the district. Customers can designate a school as their specific institution at the department store and have a portion of their purchase put into the Take Charge of Education program.

Contributing $2,125.46, Target’s funds will be split with $1,011.05 being used at Flocktown-Kossmann School for technology and education programs. The remaining $1,114.41 will be used at the Cucinella School for educational programs.

Also making a contribution is the Long Valley Junior Women’s Club, a non-profit, community organization benefitting the district in the amount of $3,250.

That lump sum will be broken up into the four schools as follows:

• $875 to Flocktown-Kossmann
• $1,000 to Cucinella
• $625 to Old Farmers Road School
• $750 to Long Valley Middle School

The third contribution is being given by the Old Farmers Parent-Teacher Association in the amount of $877. Those funds will be allocated to the Bully Buster Peer Education Program in the amount of $415, and to the Listen, Read, Learn program in the amount of $462.

Contribution, once approved by the board, are placed into a special revenue fund, according to business administrator Liz George.

The contributions have no bearing on the receipt of state aid and are not placed in the annual budget.
