Temperatures hovering around 90-degrees didn’t stop more than 100 women from New Jersey and New York from taking part in a free golf clinic at in Long Valley on Monday.
The event, organized by the New Jersey Golf Foundation, is designed to help spread awareness about the game to a demographic that can have a positive influence on marketing golf, according to Scott Kmiec.
Kmiec, executive director of New Jersey Golf Foundation, said the organization focuses on teaching golf to youth and women and holds about a dozen events like this each year.
“The game can teach a lot of life lessons,” Kmiec said. “It helps kids understand a lot about honesty and integrity and how to play the game.”
Monday’s event had 104 participants broken into groups and paired with a Professional Golfers’ Association professional teaching them how to drive, chip and putt. There were 17 professionals on hand, Kmiec said. After the instructional periods were over, the women were able to play the course.
Golfers of all experience levels attended, Kmiec said, as some said they had golfed 100 times last year, while some had never played on a course before.
The event was sponsored by Lincoln, Pinks & Greens, and Golf Coastal of Canada.
